Banner use in funeral ceremonies and processions

The 31.5 × 51 in (80 × 130 cm) funeral banner is suitable for funeral ceremonies, mourning processions, services for the deceased and the observance of All Souls’ Day. It may also be used during the Stations of the Cross, Passion devotions, and celebrations during Lent and Holy Week.

The Suffering Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows

One side shows the Suffering Jesus Christ wearing a crown of thorns, symbolizing His Passion and sacrifice. Christ’s sorrowful, contemplative face, with His gaze directed upward, emphasizes the profound Passion-centered character of the depiction. The image is rendered in shades of gray and surrounded by a decorative frame with silver botanical ornaments, whose color contrasts with the banner’s deep purple background.

The other side shows Our Lady of Sorrows with her head bowed and a deeply sorrowful expression. The depiction of Mary refers to her suffering during the Passion and death of Jesus Christ, symbolizing maternal love, compassion and hope in times of mourning. The black-and-white image is surrounded by an ornamental frame with silver ornaments. The purple background and decorative silver fringe form a harmonious, dignified composition for funeral processions and the church interior.
