Altar Linen Set for White Celebrations with IHS Embroidery

The altar linen set is used for Christmas, Easter, and other celebrations in the liturgical color white.

Use in the Roman liturgy

In the Roman liturgy, white accompanies celebrations of the Lord, including Christmas, Easter, Epiphany, and Christ the King of the Universe. It also accompanies feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, feasts of saints who are not martyrs, and Sundays in the Easter and Christmas seasons. As a general sign of the name Jesus, the IHS monogram does not connect the set with one particular feast. It can be used for any celebration in liturgical white, including wedding Masses, First Masses, and jubilee Masses.

The IHS monogram and the white embroidered finish

Gold embroidery: It forms the IHS monogram, a monogram of the name Jesus, from the Greek ΙΗΣΟΥΣ, traditionally expanded as “Jesus Hominum Salvator.” Central motif: On the chalice pall, a large IHS monogram has a cross above the letter H and radiant stars on either side. The same motif is repeated on the remaining pieces in a smaller scale.

Chalice pall: It is made of polyester fabric with a stain-resistant finish. Its edges are finished with wavy embroidery with a white outline that harmonizes with the IHS embroidery. One corner is secured with stiffening film, which makes it easier to lift the pall without touching the embroidery. The corporal is made of the same polyester fabric with a stain-resistant finish and has white wavy embroidered edging. The purificator and lavabo towel are made of cotton fabric, also with white wavy embroidered edging.

• Chalice pall: It measures 6.75 × 6.75 in (17 × 17 cm). It is white, made of polyester, and decorated with a large IHS monogram topped by a cross and radiant stars. It has a stain-resistant finish, and one corner is protected by stiffening film. It is used to cover the chalice during the liturgy.
• Corporal: It measures 18.5 × 18.5 in (47 × 47 cm). It is white, made of polyester, and decorated with IHS embroidery in the corners. Its edges are finished with white wavy embroidered edging, and it has a stain-resistant finish. It is spread on the altar beneath the chalice and paten.
• Purificator: It measures approximately 18.5 × 9.5 in (47 × 24 cm). It is white, made of cotton, and decorated with IHS embroidery and wavy embroidered edging. It is used to wipe the chalice and paten during the liturgy.
• Lavabo towel: It measures approximately 18.5 × 9.5 in (47 × 24 cm). It is white, made of cotton, and decorated with IHS embroidery and wavy embroidered edging. It is used to dry the celebrant’s hands during the lavabo rite.
• Packaging: The set is packed in a box with a window.
